Event Details

The Roshelle Brago Boakye Foundation (ROBBFoundation) commemorated World Menstrual Hygiene Day on Thursday, 28th May 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Assin Fosu, Central Region. The event was organized in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (Assin Fosu directorate) and sponsored by Softcare Ghana Limited.

The theme for this year’s celebration was, “Period Friendly World”. The foundation, together with its partner celebrated this day under the theme, “Together for a Period-Friendly World”. The primary aim of the celebration was to create widespread awareness on menstrual hygiene management and to break the longstanding stigma surrounding menstruation. The program called for dignity, safety, and inclusion for all girls and women, while actively encouraging males to support females in whatever ways they can during their menstruation period.

The program brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, educators, state institutions, traditional leaders, students, and community members. A total of 274 participants attended the event making it successful event.
Program Activities

During the World Menstrual Hygiene Day, there were series of educational sessions. Health practitioners present held panel discussions on menstrual hygiene management, proper use of sanitary products, dignity and inclusion of women and girls with disabilities, and common misconceptions about menstruation in the society.

The panel dived into stigma-breaking dialogue. These Open discussions encouraged participants to share experiences and ask questions, fostering a safe environment to break cultural taboos surrounding menstruation and share experiences.

During the event, we had a broad Male inclusion session. The men and boys present were specifically encouraged to support female relatives, classmates, and colleagues during menstruation by providing understanding, resources, and emotional support.

We crowned the event by distributing Softcare sanitory pad and wipes. Softcare Ghana Limited, the sponsor of the program, provided sanitary pads to all participants to promote dignity and safety during menstruation and also to break the stigma among males.

Participants took a collective pledge to promote menstrual dignity, ensure safe disposal of sanitary materials, and support inclusive practices in schools, homes, and workplaces.


Impact of the Initiative

Increasing awareness of menstrual hygiene management among 274 community members, including students, teachers, health workers, and traditional leaders.

Reducing stigma through open, inclusive dialogue involving males and females. Empowering girls with knowledge and sanitary products, thereby promoting school attendance and participation during menstruation.

Strengthening partnerships between ROBBFOUNDATION, Ghana Education Service, and private sector sponsors like Softcare Ghana Limited.
Encouraging male allies to actively support menstrual health and dignity.

The World Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration organized by ROBBFOUNDATION in partnership with Ghana Education Service and sponsored by Softcare Ghana Limited was a resounding success. The event brought together 274 participants from Assin Fosu and surrounding communities to advocate for dignity, safety, and inclusion in menstrual health management. By encouraging males to support females and breaking the silence around menstruation, the Foundation has taken a significant step toward creating a more informed and equitable society to make females feel okay whenever they menstruate around men.
